In our post, Awards and Opportunities, we provided an overview of the many different kinds of scholarships available to students at the Tisch Center. A few of these awards provide the opportunity for students to attend a ceremony where they are recognized by industry for their academic and professional achievements.
One of these awards, The BTN Travel Hall of Fame Scholarship Co-sponsored by United Airlines, was presented to Tisch Center students Gus Park and Diana Yang on December 10, 2012, at The Business Travel Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, at the St. Regis Hotel.
Below, Diana Yang shares her experience at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which she attended with Tisch Center Divisional Dean Bjorn Hanson, Ph.D.
Diana Yang, M.S. Hospitality Industry Studies Candidate
Business travel propels the industry and keeps its gears in motion, but that does not mean one should sacrifice a memorable and leisurely experience. With that in mind, I began my second year in the program.
Through NYU’s partnership with Business Travel Network, I was fortunate enough to receive the BTN Business Travel Hall of Fame Scholarship. My fellow recipient and I, along with Dean Hanson, attended the 2013 BTN Hall of Fame dinner at the St. Regis Hotel. It was amazing to see industry giants in their element: charming everyone with their personability and colorful sense of humor that definitely had me laughing throughout the evening.
The banquet was an inspiring yet comfortable affair. It was the ideal forum to encounter travel professionals and industry executives. Impressed by stories from the likes of Bill Marriott and Herb Kelleher, I was truly humbled to witness the inductees rewarded for their achievements.
Starry-eyed and grateful for the experience, I took motivation from the current executives and future leaders to continuously improve and affect the travel industry, and perhaps even find my way there again someday.
